The Siamese cat, a breed of cat that’s elegant, cute, and smart with charming blue eyes. They also have 2 different looks! If you like elegant and cute, this just might be the cat for you!
Origin:
Do you recognize this flag? This is the flag of Thailand, which was formerly called Siam. This is where the Siamese cat got its name. This particular breed of cat was a legendary temple cat of the King of Siam. These cats were also used as guard cats and would attack anyone who threatened the king. Soon, during the 1890’s and early 1900’s, Siamese cats were being imported in North America from Britian, France, Japan, and Thailand.
Appearance:
The Siamese cat can have 2 different looks. The traditional one has a slightly chubby body and an apple-shaped head. The modern Siamese has a skinny body and a wedge-shaped head. As kittens, Siamese cats have white fur, but develop the creme-colored fur and dark brown points as they get older. This kind of Siamese is a Seal point, but there’s also the Blue point, Chocolate point, and Lilac point. Fun fact: The color of the points depends on the temperature of the environment they were born in. If it’s warmer, the points are lighter. If it’s colder, they will be dark.
Personality:
Siamese cats are very social and are intelligent too. They love playing with their owners and are very chatty. They absolutely love attention, so it’s a good idea to adopt another Siamese or any other cat that matches its personality. Although they put on an elegant and graceful show, they have a funny side in which they miscalculate their target and end up scrambling back up.
Diet:
Siamese cats are skinny and need to stay skinny. So, make sure to not overfeed them so they don’t get obesity. They need a diet of high animal protein, less fats, and good amounts of vitamins, minerals, and water. You should feed them dry food to keep their teeth clean and prevent gum disease. Feed them wet food sometimes to make sure they get enough water. You can research online for the best food for Siamese cats.
